The Claims Converter Module

Occasionally, you may come across a medical practice that uses an old billing software that is limited to printing the insurance form but cannot transmit it electronically. The Claims Converter program can import the data fields or translate the print image of the HCFA-1500 from the provider's software. This information can then be transferred to your billing system so that you can electronically submit it to the clearinghouse.

While this program is NOT necessary with the MedOffice™ system, experienced billing centers who become active software resellers may establish a need for it if they become involved in the business of data conversions. However, using the Claims Converter as a means for processing claims as a start-up business is not practical for the following reasons:

  1. A special "map" must be established for each software system from which you download or merge data. Mapping requires some programming experience. A guide or a manual is generally insufficient because you will be working with very different software systems on a consistent basis.

  2. Using Claims Converter or similar downloading software to process claims will limit your job to simply "double-checking" or "reviewing" claims information for errors. Accordingly, you must reduce your charge to less than $1.00 per claim and you will still need to pay the clearinghouse fee!

  3. The Y2K problem may cripple your downloading capabilities as the providers' older software from which you will be downloading is most likely not compliant with the year 2000.

As you can see from the information above, this method of medical claims processing is inefficient and far from profitable. Some business opportunity vendors heavily promote downloaders or converter modules as a major method of claims processing. They simply do not have advanced solutions like MedOffice™! We ask that you carefully examine the details.
